History of SMCE

School of Mechanical & Civil Engineering started on year 2002, its academic origin however, extends all the way to Jiaozuo School of Mining. Jiaozuo School of Mining was established in 1909 which was later on renamed as China University of Mining and Technology.
By the year 1909 when Jiaozuo School of Mining was founded, there were no official courses on Mining & metallurgy and Road Engineering. Courses like Architectural Planning and Road Engineering was later on added to the junior year curriculum. These courses laid down the foundation of the modern curriculum of School of Mechanical and Civil Engineering.
/7 – Jiaozuo School of Mining was renamed as Jiaozuo Private Institute of Technology; Civil Engineering was founded as a subject.
/8 - Civil Engineering grew from a division to an independent department.
/3 – Northern technical college of Mining merged with Jiaozuo School of Mining and Civil Engineering Academic Department was founded. The department was also known as Mine Construction Engineering Academic Department.
/4 – Civil Engineering Academic Department was renamed as Mine Civil Engineering Academic Department. It was renamed again later in September as Mining Enterprise Architecture Department.
/10 – Mining Enterprise Architecture Department was renamed as Mine Construction Department.
/8 – Department of Mining was established combining Mine Construction Department and Department of Coal Mining
– Graduate school of China University of Mining & Technology, Beijing, was founded. Graduate program of Mine Construction Engineering major and Mine Engineering Mechanics major was once again open.
/5/22 – Two subdivisions from Department of Mining merged into Department of Mine Architecture. The subdivisions were Coal Mine Construction and Mining Industry & Civil Architecture.
– Department of Mine Architecture was authorized for Ph.D. programs.
/3/15 – Theoretical Mechanics and Mechanics of Materials research group was promoted to Division of Theoretical Mechanics and Division of Material Mechanics. These two offices were part of Applied Mathematics & Mechanics Department and didn't obtain their laboratory until after.
– Department of Mine Architecture along with Mining Engineering Mechanics was awarded as National Key Disciplines.
– China University of Mining & Technology, Beijing, was founded. Undergraduate program started on year 1998, Mine Construction Engineering major was rearranged to be Civil Engineering major, Mine Engineering Mechanics major was rearranged to be Engineering Mechanics major. While the former one started their undergraduate program in 1999, the later one started in 2000. They each belongs to School of Resources & Safety Engineering and School of Basic Studies.
– Distinguished professor position of Cheung Kong Scholar was rewarded from Ministry of Education of Civil Engineering.
– Geotechnical Engineering and Civil Engineering became National Key Disciplines.
– Civil Engineering major, Engineering Mechanics major and Architecture major was combined and established as School of Mechanical and Civil Engineering. Later in the same year, first level discipline of Engineering Mechanics was authorized to offer full Ph.D. degrees as well as operating post-doctoral research station.
- First level discipline of Civil Engineering was authorized to offer full Ph.D. degrees as well as operating post-doctoral research station.
– Geotechnical major and Engineering Mechanics major passed the new National Key Discipline evaluation once again.
– First level discipline of Civil Engineering was rewarded as Beijing key discipline.
